Research Methods
Research is essential for improving healthcare practice, strengthening health systems, and supporting evidence-based decision-making. This short course is designed to equip health workers with practical skills in planning, conducting, and interpreting health research. The course aims to help participants develop clear research questions, understand study designs, design data collection tools, apply basic sampling methods, and carry out simple data analysis and interpretation. Participants will also learn how to critically appraise research articles and develop a basic research proposal. It is suitable for doctors, nurses, clinical officers, public health practitioners, laboratory and allied health professionals, NGO staff, and health sciences students with an interest in research. Training will be delivered through interactive lectures, group discussions, case studies, and practical exercises. Participants will also develop a mini research proposal during the course. Key topics include introduction to health research, study designs, sampling techniques, data collection methods, questionnaire design, basic data analysis, research ethics, and proposal writing. By the end of the training, participants will have improved research skills, the ability to develop a research proposal, enhanced critical appraisal skills, and a certificate of completion.
