Monitoring and Evaluation
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) is a practical course designed to equip participants with skills to track, assess, and improve projects and programs. It is widely used in development work, NGOs, government projects, and the private sector. The course introduces the difference between monitoring (continuous tracking of project activities) and evaluation (periodic assessment of project results and impact). Participants learn how projects are structured using inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, and impact. Key areas covered include planning for M&E through setting clear objectives and developing SMART indicators. Participants are also introduced to the Logical Framework (Logframe) and how it is used to guide project performance measurement. The course further covers data collection methods such as surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and observation. It also builds skills in data management, basic analysis, and interpretation using simple tools like Excel. Participants are trained on how to prepare clear M&E reports, present findings effectively, and use tables, charts, and graphs for reporting results. Evaluation methods are also discussed, including baseline and endline studies, as well as formative and summative evaluations. In addition, the course highlights ethical considerations in M&E such as data accuracy, confidentiality, and informed consent, along with common challenges faced during implementation. By the end of the training, participants gain practical skills to monitor projects effectively, evaluate outcomes, and support evidence-based decision-making in their organizations.
